During June 15–21, 2025, the School of Digital Technology, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) was honored to showcase its flagship environmental research project at the Thailand Research Expo 2025, held at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre, CentralWorld, Bangkok. The university’s participation was supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).

These innovations were led by Dr. Kemachart Kemavuthanon, a lecturer at the School of Digital Technology, and his research team. The smart waste management system has been under continuous development since 2017 through strong collaboration with local administrative organizations.
This system integrates digital technology with local community engagement to sustainably manage hazardous waste at the community level. It supports processes from waste sorting, data recording, and analytics to disposal and information transfer, enabling more effective and accurate waste management practices.
Currently, the system has been adopted by 143 local administrative organizations (LAOs) in Chiang Rai Province and expanded to eight provinces nationwide. Key innovations include:
