On Friday, February 7, and Saturday, February 8, 2025, the School of Applied Digital Technology, Mae Fah Luang University, had the honor of conducting a specialized training session on AI in Game Development for high school students in the Gifted Computer Program under the Science and Technology Learning Group at Yupparaj Wittayalai School, Chiang Mai.

The training was led by Dr. Kemachart Kemavuthanon, from the Digital and Communication Engineering program, and Asst. Prof. Yootthapong Tongpaeng, from the Multimedia Technology and Animation program. Both instructors are experts in game development, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).

The training covered fundamental concepts to prepare students who had never developed games before and were unfamiliar with career opportunities in game development. Key topics include: The fundamentals of game development – What it involves and potential career paths, The role of AI in the gaming industry – How AI is transforming game creation and Understanding AR, VR, MR, and XR – A foundation for immersive technologies. After gaining theoretical insights, students engaged in hands-on training, starting with AI-assisted game design and AI-powered character creation. They then learned how to integrate AI-generated 3D characters into Unity, using AI tools to facilitate programming, character animation, movement, object interaction, and point collection within the game environment.

The two-day training was highly successful, receiving excellent feedback from participants. AI tools significantly simplified complex programming tasks, making game development more accessible. Previously intricate processes, such as 3D character creation, were streamlined through AI, allowing students to focus on creativity and innovation. Students not only gained technical knowledge but also had an engaging and enjoyable learning experience. The skills acquired will enable them to develop their projects and pursue further studies in game development and AI applications in the future.
